Eagle Hospital Physicians and South Fulton Medical Center (SFMC), led by Karim Godamunne, MD MBA FHM, have collaborated to develop a nationally recognized telestroke program. In partnership with Eagle and through the use of telemedicine technology and neurology specialists from Georgia TeleNeurology, SFMC has achieved what approximately 90% of hospitals in America have not. That is become a certified primary stroke center and recognition by the American Stroke Association with a silver plus status, the highest honors for a first year stroke program.
As the Hospitalist and Stroke Center Medical Director, Dr. Godamunne has developed a unique integration and collaborative between his hospitalist team and the neurologists. Hospitalist clinical expertise in managing stroke patients was accomplished through training, operational procedures, enhanced protocol development and collaboration with the teleneurologists.
Dr. Godamunne will present the data from this service during the poster session of the Society of Hospital Medicine's 2011 annual meeting in Dallas, Texas.
